Art Exhibiton

Private View 30th Nov
Social Friday 1st Dec
Runs til Sunday 3rd Dec

This exhibition brings together four artists interested in what Michel Foucault describes as dispositif, or

“a thoroughly heterogeneous ensemble consisting of discourses, institutions, architectural forms, regulatory decisions, laws, administrative measures, scientific statements, philosophical, moral and philanthropic propositions–in short, the said as much as the unsaid. Such are the elements of the apparatus. The apparatus itself is the system of relations that can be established between these elements”

In the work on display each artist looks at the way in which this phrase can be made visual or tangible in painting , video and assemblage.

We all love food. So how could we possibly be throwing nearly 50% of it in the trash? Filmmakers and food lovers Jen and Grant dive into the issue of waste from farm, through retail, all the way to the back of their own fridge.

After catching a glimpse of the billions of dollars of good food that is tossed each year in North America, they pledge to quit grocery shopping cold turkey and survive only on foods that would otherwise be thrown away. Featuring interviews with TED lecturer Tristram Stewart and acclaimed author Jonathan Bloom, Just Eat It looks at our systemic obsession with expiry dates, perfect produce and portion sizes, and reveals the core of this seemingly insignificant issue that is having devastating consequences around the globe.

Scoop and Scales book club #1

Where:
The Green Room at Scoop and Scales

NOW 1st November
7.30 – 9pm

Scoop & Scales are launching a quarterly bookclub!
Each quarter we will choose a book that focuses on sustainability / green-living / the environment and we are inviting you to read along with us.
We will then host a meetup so that we can discuss our thoughts, and a-ha moments, and ask any questions that the book may have raised.

The first book for the Scoop & Scales Bookclub will be The Sustainable(ish) Living Guide: Everything you need to know to make small changes that make a big difference by Jen Gale aka Sustainable-ish

From the blurb …

“Easy, do-able, down to earth ideas and suggestions for everyone to help save the planet.

If you want to save the planet, but your to-do list is already pretty long and remembering your re-usable coffee cup feels like a Herculean task, then this is the book for you. Covering every aspect of our lives from the stuff we buy and the food we eat to how we travel, work, and celebrate, this book provides stacks of practical, down to earth ideas to slot into your daily life, alongside a gentle kick up the butt to put your newfound knowledge into action. Practical tips include unsubscribing from all the tempting emails that drop into your inbox with details of the newest clothing range or the latest sale, and keeping a mug next to your kettle to work out how much water you actually need to boil each time, as over-filling kettles costs British households £68 million on energy bills each year.

Find out how to fit “sustainable living” into your life, in a way that works for you. Change your impact without radically changing your life and figure out the small steps you can make that will add up to make a big difference (halo not included).”

Will you be reading along and joining us for ou rmeet-up on the 18th October?
